Concept

Do you have a project in mind?
By this point you have probably given endless hours to formulating ideas; collecting inspirations; and, researching everything from construction techniques to final finishes. However, you are now at the point where you are ready to find a designer to help you bring your thoughts into final designs.

PREPARATION

The first step is to get familiar with your project, chat with you and visit your site. At this stage we discuss the whole process, from navigating the planning process to contracting a builder (or self-build project management).
We will establish your main goals for the project relating to DESIGN | ENERGY | BUDGET.

Typical outputs of the preparation stage are:

-
Written brief and mood board
-
Design and site meeting
-
Site plan OS map purchase (dwg. format)

Together we develop a brief, and this is normally in written document with a mood board. We discuss and commission any survey work needed; or, delay these surveys if the principal of planning is not clear-cut. In these cases I would recommend a pre-application enquiry first before you invest in survey work. Here are some common surveys that are undertaken to support a planning application (not all projects require additional surveys)

Topographical Survey
Flood Risk Assessment
Ecological Survey
Traffic Survey
Contaminated Land Survey
Archeological Survey
Measured Survey (existing buildings)

AT THE END OF THE PREPARATION STAGE I WILL HAVE ESTABLISHED THE VISION FOR YOUR PROJECT AND THE CONSTRAINING FACTORS. WE ARE NOW READY TO START DESIGNING!

CONCEPT

The concept stage is where most of the design process happens. Your project may be a building plot; a house extension; a barn conversion; eco-pods / glamping; small-scale commercial or something different. Using the information collated in the preparation stage I start designing and developing ideas. Typical outputs include:

-
CAD floor-plans
-
Typical sections
-
3D visualisation

Additional for pre-application enquiries
-
Design statement
-
Proposed site plan & site location

Optional
-
Initial budget estimate
-
Initial energy performance assessment

At the end of the concept stage I will present to you the design idea, it will be in a presentation format suitable for submitting as a pre-application enquiry to your local planning authority.
