Roys Garage
Roy’s Garage was a local fixture in our community — a place I knew well growing up. When Roy Jones retired in 2019 after 50 years in business, he approached my father and me with a new vision: to design and build his dream home on the site of his former business.

We were genuinely honoured to be part of Roy and Nerys’s journey, transforming a well-loved garage into a warm, modern home.

The project centred on converting the steel-framed rear portion of the building, while the original forecourt and front section were carefully demolished. It was important to us — and to Roy — that we approached the transformation with sensitivity and practicality.

Before construction could begin, we completed full contaminated land remediation, which was formally approved. The build itself started during a challenging period — navigating the economic uncertainty and material inflation that followed the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Roy became an integral part of the project, working side by side with our Ty Cefn team — a collaboration made possible by decades of trust and shared respect. We're still working with Roy and Nerys now, helping finalise their garage and landscaping to complete the home.

One of the highlights of the build was welcoming local primary school children to the site. Seeing their excitement as they explored the “skeleton” of the house — and realising it was an “upside-down” home with the living areas on the first floor — was a real joy.

The finished home blends steel frame and timber infill, with high levels of insulation and airtightness. It’s a great example of how creative thinking and hands-on collaboration can bring new life to familiar places — while keeping the story alive.
